The Telangana government is planning to introduce free travel on the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) for all passengers starting from June 2, 2026, marking Telangana Formation Day.
According to initial reports, the move aims to make public transport more accessible and reduce traffic congestion across Hyderabad. MMTS services, which connect key parts of the city including Secunderabad, Lingampally, and Falaknuma, are widely used by daily commuters.
Officials indicate that the proposal is part of a broader push to encourage the use of public transportation and lower fuel consumption. If implemented, the scheme could benefit thousands of passengers who rely on Multi-Modal Transport System for affordable daily travel.
However, the plan is yet to receive final approval, and detailed guidelines on implementation are expected to be announced soon.
If rolled out, Telangana would join a growing list of states offering free or subsidized travel in public transport systems to ease the financial burden on citizens.
