Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal: A 10-year-old child died in a tragic incident in West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district after a bomb allegedly thrown during a BJP victory procession exploded near his father’s motorcycle, triggering a chain of events that led to the boy’s death.
The incident took place in the Shalboni area, where a BJP victory procession was reportedly passing through following the party’s electoral success. According to preliminary reports, an explosive device allegedly hurled from the procession detonated close to a motorcycle carrying the child and his father.
Startled by the sudden explosion, the father reportedly lost control of the bike. The impact of the blast caused the young boy to fall onto the road, where he was allegedly run over by a speeding truck approaching from behind. He sustained severe injuries and died on the spot, reports said.
The incident sparked outrage among local residents, who demanded strict action against those responsible for the alleged bombing. Tension prevailed in the area as police personnel were deployed to prevent any escalation of the situation.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and identify those involved in the alleged attack. Senior police officials visited the spot, collected evidence, and began questioning witnesses.
No official statement had been issued by the BJP regarding the allegations at the time of reporting. Police said further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
The death of the child has once again brought attention to concerns over political violence in the state, with opposition parties and civil society groups calling for accountability and ensuring the safety of civilians during political events.
