Rain Alert for Telangana: IMD Predicts Thunderstorms, Hyderabad Likely to See Showers on June 9

Hyderabad, June 5: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, has forecast continued rainfall and thunderstorm activity across Telangana over the next five days, with Hyderabad expected to experience light to moderate rain, thundershowers, lightning, and gusty winds until at least June 10.

According to the latest weather bulletin issued by IMD Hyderabad on Friday night, many parts of Telangana are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms over the coming days. The department has also predicted a gradual fall in maximum temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius during the next four days, bringing relief from the recent heat.

Hyderabad Under Thunderstorm Alert

For Hyderabad and surrounding districts, IMD has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph at isolated places. Similar conditions are expected to prevail across all districts of Telangana through June 9.

The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly while commuting, as strong winds and lightning could disrupt normal activities.

Heavy Rainfall Warning for Several Telangana Districts

IMD has issued heavy rainfall warnings for multiple districts over the next two days:

  • June 6: Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, and Nagarkurnool districts.
  • June 7: Heavy rain is expected in Nalgonda, Suryapet, Warangal, Hanumakonda, and Nagarkurnool districts.

Apart from heavy rain, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are likely across the state.

Rain and Thunderstorm Activity to Continue Till June 10

The IMD bulletin indicates that light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at many places across Telangana from June 6 to June 10. Thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and strong winds is expected to continue statewide during this period.

On June 10, districts including Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mulugu, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal may witness thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Monsoon Expected to Advance Towards Telangana

Meteorologists expect the southwest monsoon to advance further inland over the coming week, with favourable conditions developing for its progress across Telangana. The ongoing spell of rain and thunderstorms is being seen as a precursor to the monsoon’s arrival in the state.

Authorities have advised farmers, commuters, and residents to keep track of weather updates and take necessary precautions during periods of heavy rain, lightning, and strong winds.

With rainfall activity expected to persist over the next several days, Hyderabad and much of Telangana are likely to experience cooler temperatures and cloudy conditions heading into the second week of June.
