TGSPDCL Rolls Out ‘Walk Along The Line’ Drive to Ensure Uninterrupted Power Supply

Hyderabad: In a major initiative aimed at strengthening the power distribution network ahead of the monsoon season, the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) has launched special programmes titled “Walk Along The Line” and “Poles and Lines Special Drive.”

TGSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Jitesh V. Patil on Sunday held a teleconference with the company’s directors, Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, Divisional Engineers and other officials to review monsoon preparedness measures.

During the meeting, the CMD directed officials to implement the innovative “Walk Along The Line” programme to improve the reliability of the electricity distribution system and ensure quality, uninterrupted power supply to consumers.

Under the initiative, employees at all levels of the organisation will physically inspect electricity infrastructure by walking along power lines every day from 9 am to 10 am between the 10th and 20th of every month. The objective is to identify field-level issues at an early stage and resolve them before they lead to power interruptions.

“Every employee should have complete knowledge of the electrical network under their jurisdiction. Early detection and timely rectification of problems will significantly improve consumer services,” the CMD said.

As part of the “Poles and Lines Special Drive,” TGSPDCL will conduct extensive inspections of 33 kV substations, 33 kV and 11 kV feeders, distribution transformers and LT networks across all circles under the CURE (Core Urban Region Economy) area.

The inspections will focus on identifying and repairing damaged or tilted electricity poles, correcting loose or sagging wires, replacing defective insulators and conductors, and checking transformers, fuses, clamps and other equipment. All maintenance activities will be documented using GIS coordinates along with before-and-after photographs.

Officials will also interact directly with consumers to understand their grievances and gather suggestions for strengthening the power network.

To prevent rain-related power disruptions caused by vegetation, TGSPDCL has ordered a two-week feeder maintenance and tree-trimming drive, giving priority to feeders with a history of frequent interruptions. The utility will coordinate with local bodies for the immediate removal of trimmed branches.

For improved safety and faster execution of field operations, staff will be equipped with modern tools including bucket ladder cranes, chain saws, pole pruners, helmets, torch lights, voltage detectors, high-quality raincoats and special uniforms.

The power utility will also intensify public awareness campaigns on electrical safety by promoting the 1912 helpline, TGSPDCL WhatsApp services, the TGSPDCL mobile app and control room numbers. Safety stickers will be displayed at schools, parks and other public places.

Reiterating the theme of the initiative, TGSPDCL emphasised: “Our Line – Our Responsibility” and “Every Employee a Partner – A Solution to Every Problem,” underscoring the collective effort required to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the monsoon season.
