Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Tuesday, April 28, appointed C V Anand as the new Director General of Police (DGP). He is currently serving as Special Chief Secretary in the Home Department.
According to the official order, Anand will head the Telangana police force and receive an apex scale pay of ₹2,25,000. His appointment will take effect from the day he assumes charge.
A 1991-batch IPS officer, Anand brings extensive experience to the role. He previously served as Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau and held the post of Hyderabad Police Commissioner twice. He has also served as Commissioner of Police in Cyberabad.
Anand began his career as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Warangal Rural. During his early years, he spent nearly a decade in naxal-affected districts, leading operations and participating in several encounters. For his service in high-risk operations and efforts in countering naxalism, he was awarded the President’s Gallantry Medal.
The current DGP, B Shivadhar Reddy, is scheduled to retire on April 30.
Meanwhile, Shivadhar Reddy’s appointment had faced legal challenges. Petitions were filed in the Telangana High Court alleging that the state government did not follow the 2018 Supreme Court guidelines, which require states to submit a list of eligible officers to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) at least three months before the incumbent DGP’s retirement. The petitioners sought a quo warranto writ to quash his appointment.
