India Asks People Not to Panic, Says No Fuel Price Hike Now

New Delhi, April 28: The government has urged people to stay calm and avoid rushing to petrol pumps, saying there is no plan to increase petrol or diesel prices right now.

Speaking to the media, Sujata Sharma said that fuel supplies are sufficient across the country. She asked citizens not to believe rumours and avoid panic buying.

This statement comes after reports of long queues at fuel stations due to fears of a price hike.

India is facing pressure from rising global oil prices, mainly due to tensions in the Middle East and disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for oil transport.

Even though crude oil prices have increased, petrol and diesel rates in India have not been changed, helping consumers for now.

However, experts, including analysts from Kotak Institutional Equities, say prices may go up later, especially after elections.

Meanwhile, companies like Reliance Industries are facing pressure due to rising costs and lower profits.
