No Tilak, Religious Symbols in Uniform: Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar’s Order

Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar has issued a new directive that has sparked debate across the state.

In an order dated April 18, he instructed police personnel not to wear any religious symbols, such as tilak or sandalwood marks, on their forehead while in uniform and on duty. He stated that such practices go against the police manual and warned that strict disciplinary action will be taken against those who fail to comply.

DGP Kumar emphasized that the police force must maintain a professional image. He also made it clear that wearing caps and belts is mandatory while on duty, and uniforms without them will be considered incomplete.
