RTC Strike Begins Across Telangana Tonight After Govt Talks Fail

Hyderabad: Talks between the Telangana government and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) union leaders ended without a breakthrough, prompting workers to announce an indefinite strike from 12 am on April 22.

The discussions, held on Tuesday evening, stretched late into the night between a high-level committee of bureaucrats and union representatives. However, negotiations broke down after the RTC Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders refused to wait another four weeks for the committee to submit its report.

Union leaders expressed strong displeasure over the absence of political representatives at the meeting, calling it a “snub.” They had expected the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy or Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka.

Earlier: Hyderabad: Employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) have announced an indefinite strike starting April 22, raising concerns over public transport disruption across the state.

According to union leaders, the strike has been called to press for long-pending demands, including salary revisions, job security, and better working conditions. Workers have alleged that repeated appeals to the government have not resulted in concrete action, forcing them to resort to protest.

The proposed strike is expected to impact thousands of buses operated by TGSRTC, potentially affecting daily commuters, especially in cities like Hyderabad and other major towns.

Transport authorities have not yet issued a detailed response, but officials are likely to initiate talks with union representatives to avoid a complete shutdown of services.

Meanwhile, commuters have been advised to plan alternative travel arrangements if the strike proceeds as scheduled.
