Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri Traffic Police on Thursday carried out a special enforcement drive against footpath encroachments and carriageway obstructions across various traffic police station limits in the commissionerate, registering a total of 3,497 cases and collecting fines amounting to Rs 6.03 lakh.
According to police officials, the crackdown was aimed at improving pedestrian safety and easing traffic congestion caused by illegal encroachments and obstructions on roads and footpaths.
During the drive, 1,581 cases were booked for footpath encroachments, while another 1,916 cases were registered for carriageway obstructions.
Zone-II reported the highest number of violations during the operation. Among all police stations, Uppal Traffic Police Station recorded the maximum number of cases, with 804 violations booked.
Officials stated that such special drives would continue in the coming days to ensure free movement for pedestrians and smooth traffic flow across the city. Citizens and shop owners were also urged to avoid occupying footpaths and public roads illegally.
