Only 50 People to Offer Prayers at Nizamudddin Tablighi Markaz in Delhi During Ramzan: High Court

The Delhi court in order noted that under the covid rules, all religious gatherings were banned but there was “no direction” to close places of worships. “The situation is getting grim day by day. But since all religious places are open and Nizamuddin Markaz is a place of worship, this also had to be opened,”

New Delhi, 15 April: Only Fifty people are allowed to offer prayers during the month of Ramzan inside the Nizamuddin Markaz (Tablighi Jamaat) in Delhi, which has been closed for year at the beginning of Coronavirus pandemic.

The Tablighi Jamaat headquarter in Delhi, Masjid Bangley Wali in Nizamuddin in south Delhi was closed in March 2020 after a huge controversy break out over a gathering of the Tablighi Jamaat held at a time coronavirus cases had started rising in India. Cases were filed in many states blaming Tablighi members for the escalation of Covid cases.

Last week, The Delhi Waqf Board approached the Delhi High Court requesting that the restrictions be eased to allow people to pray inside the Markaz during Ramzan.

The Delhi court in order noted that under the covid rules, all religious gatherings were banned but there was “no direction” to close places of worships. “The situation is getting grim day by day. But since all religious places are open and Nizamuddin Markaz is a place of worship, this also had to be opened,” the High Court said.

The Delhi High Court today allowed people to offer prayers five times a day on the first floor of the Nizamuddin Markaz, following Covid norms and disaster management rules.
