Hyderabad: The Telangana government has sanctioned Rs 3,849.10 crore for the installation of 39 sewage treatment plants (STPs) along the Musi River, marking the first major step in its river cleaning initiative. The plants will be strategically located across the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area and the outer-ring road.
On August 3, Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Dana Kishore issued the government order approving the project. The STPs will be installed under three sewerage packages:
- Package I: 16 STPs costing Rs 1,878.55 crore, with contributions from the Centre, state, and HAM in a 25/35/40 percent split.
- Package II: 22 STPs costing Rs 1,906.44 crore, with the same contribution breakdown.
- Public-Private Partnership (PPP): One STP costing Rs 64.11 crore, with a 30/30/40 percent contribution from the Centre, state, and PPP.
Additionally, the Telangana government has allocated Rs 1,500 crore in this year’s budget for the Musi Riverfront Development project.
