Hyderabad: Eight lions at the Nehru Zoo Park have tested positive for Covid-19. The infected lions have been now isolated from other animals, and are responding well to the Covid-19 treatment and getting better.
According to sources, Eight Asiatic lions were displaying Covid-19 symptoms like respiratory distress prompting the Zoo official to collect their sample from the nose, throat, and respiratory tract under anesthesia and sent them to test on 24th April.
Reports by CCMB-LaCONES on May 4, confirmed that eight Asiatic lions housed in Nehru Zoological Park have tested positive for the SARS-CoV2 virus, officials said.
Preventive measures are already in place for all the staff and the zoo has been closed to visitors to avoid minimal external contact.
