Hyderabad: In a major administrative overhaul, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been reorganised, with the Telangana government carving out two new civic bodies — Cyberabad Municipal Corporation and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation — to improve urban governance across the rapidly expanding metropolitan region.
The restructuring aims to streamline administration and enhance service delivery in and around Hyderabad, as urban growth continues at a rapid pace across the state.
The former GHMC’s expanded area (after merging 27 surrounding municipalities) has now been divided among the three new corporations. In total, there are 60 circles distributed across the three municipal corporations.
Corporation-wise Zones & Circles
1. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC)
- 6 zones and 30 circles covering central and southern parts of Hyderabad.
- Major zones include:
- Shamshabad – e.g., Adibhatla, Badangpet, Jalpally, Shamshabad
- Charminar – e.g., Santosh Nagar, Yakatpura, Malakpet, Charminar
- Khairatabad – e.g., Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Ameerpet
- Rajendranagar – e.g., Rajendranagar, Attapur
- Golconda – e.g., Goshamahal, Mehidipatnam
- Secunderabad – e.g., Kavadiguda, Musheerabad, Tarnaka
2. Cyberabad Municipal Corporation
- 3 zones and 16 circles covering most of west and parts of north Hyderabad.
- Zones and example areas include:
- Serilingampally – e.g., Narsingi, Patancheru, Serilingampally
- Kukatpally – e.g., Kukatpally, Madhapur, Moosapet
- Quthbullapur – e.g., Chintal, Jeedimetla, Nizampet, Dundigal
3. Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation
- 3 zones and 14 circles covering most of east and north Hyderabad.
- Zones and example areas include:
- Malkajgiri – e.g., Keesara, Alwal, Moula Ali
- Uppal – e.g., Nacharam, Uppal, Boduppal
- LB Nagar – e.g., Nagole, Saroornagar, Hayathnagar
Key Appointments
Senior IAS officer Jayesh Ranjan has been appointed Special Officer overseeing all three corporations.
R V Karnan will continue as Commissioner of GHMC, while G Srijana and T Vinay Krishna Reddy have been appointed Commissioners of Cyberabad and Malkajgiri municipal corporations, respectively.
Officials said the move is intended to ensure better planning, decentralised administration and improved civic services for residents across the Greater Hyderabad region.
