AIMIM to Contest Bengal Polls in Alliance with Humayun Kabir’s Party

Hyderabad: Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday (March 22) announced that the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) will contest the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 in alliance with Humayun Kabir’s Aam Janata Unnayan Party.

Owaisi said a joint press conference with Kabir will be held in Kolkata on March 25 to share further details about the alliance.

Earlier, Kabir—former leader of the Trinamool Congress—said AJUP plans to contest 182 seats in the 2026 elections, with AIMIM likely to field candidates in around eight constituencies.

Kabir also announced three additional candidates, taking the total number of declared nominees to 18 so far.

The elections will be conducted in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4. The state has 294 Assembly constituencies, and the main contest is expected between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
