New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination, impacting nearly 22.79 lakh candidates across India and abroad. The medical entrance exam, which was conducted on May 3, 2026, will now be held again on fresh dates that will be announced later through official channels.
According to the NTA, the decision was taken with the approval of the Government of India after reviewing inputs received in coordination with central agencies and findings shared by law enforcement authorities.
The Centre has also decided to hand over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a detailed inquiry into the allegations linked to the examination.
NEET UG 2026 was conducted at more than 5,432 examination centres across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad, making it one of the world’s largest entrance examinations. The provisional answer key for the exam had already been released on May 6 before the cancellation announcement.
The NTA stated that fresh examination dates, along with details regarding re-issued admit cards, will be announced separately through official notifications.
The cancellation has created uncertainty among lakhs of medical aspirants, many of whom are now waiting for clarity on the revised schedule and further admission process.
