Justice N V Ramana to take Oath as Chief Justice of India Today

New Delhi: Senior-most Supreme Court Judge Justice, Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana will be on oath as the 48th Chief Justice of India at 11 am today. Justice Ramana will be the Chief Justice of India for a year and four months, till August 26, 2022, and will be retired. Born on August 27, 1957, in an agricultural family in Ponnavaram Village in Andhra Pradesh. Justice N V Ramana will be the second Chief Justice of India from Andhra Pradesh state, after Justice K Subba Rao who was Chief Justice of India from between 1966-1967.

He enrolled as a lawyer on February 10, 1983. He had practised in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, Central and Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunals and the Supreme Court of India in Civil, Criminal, Labor, Constitutional, Service and Election matters. His specialization lies in Constitutional, Criminal, Service and Inter-State River laws.

Earlier, Sharad Arvind Bobde, outgoing Chief Justice of India (CJI)”, said “I did my best, I don’t know how it came across,” in his farewell address as he retired on Friday. Justice Bobde was administered oath as 47th CJI in November 2019 and had an occupancy of over 17 months.
