India’s Control on Social Media ‘Not Aligned with USA Views on Freedom of Speech’, says White House

Washington: After Twitter had removed more than 50 posts on the instruction of Indian government in recent days, The US President Biden administration has said that the Indian government’s orders to remove social media content critical of government handling of the Covid-19 outbreak was not in sync with U.S. views on freedom of speech.

White House Press Secretary said on Monday’s briefing that “Well, that certainly wouldn’t be aligned with our view of freedom of speech around the world,”

Earlier, Twitter had removed over 50 posts at the order of the government in recent days. Most of these tweets were critical of the Modi government, including mass gatherings like the Kumbh Mela, a shortage of Oxygen, Beds, and Medicines, and so forth.
