Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Gets Interim Bail Till June 1 by Supreme Court

New Delhi: In a significant development, the Supreme Court of India has granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal until June 1, matching with the final phase of voting for the seven-stage 2024 Lok Sabha election. Kejriwal, leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, had been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor excise policy scam. However, he must surrender to prison authorities by June 2.

The court has outlined that the conditions of bail will similar to those imposed on AAP leader Sanjay Singh, who was granted interim relief by the Supreme Court. Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP, had been arrested in October last year in the same case and was released on bail after spending six months in jail. Notably, he was permitted to engage in political activities, including campaigning for the party. Similarly, Kejriwal is expected to have the same liberty to partake in political campaign for the ongoing Election.
