Kerala: A fireworks explosion at the Veerarkavu temple in Nileshwar, Kasaragod, Kerala, led to a devastating fire accident, injuring over 150 people, with eight in critical condition. The incident occurred during “Kulichu Thottam,” a preparatory ritual for the Moovalamkuzhi Chamundi Theyyam, marking the start of the Theyyam season in North Malabar. A collection of firecrackers caught fire, causing an explosion that triggered widespread chaos among festival attendees.
Emergency services were quickly mobilized to transport the injured to hospitals across Kasaragod, Kannur, Mangaluru, and Kozhikode. A total of 98 individuals received medical care at various hospitals, with local authorities and hospital staff working to manage the influx. The exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation as officials aim to prevent similar incidents in the future.
