Over 50 RTA Staff Involved in Fancy Number Scam and Fake Insurance Fraud

Hyderabad: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) in Hyderabad is under investigation for illegal activities involving more than 50 staff members. These staff, particularly Database Administrators (DBAs), are accused of engaging in fraudulent practices, including:

  1. Illegal Bidding and Allotment of Fancy Numbers: DBAs were allegedly involved in the unauthorized auctioning of coveted vehicle registration numbers.
  2. Fraudulent Insurance Certificates: There are accusations that these staff members distributed fake insurance documents, allowing vehicle registrations and fitness tests to proceed without valid insurance.

These practices were reportedly carried out without the knowledge of senior authorities. Complaints have been raised across the state, prompting senior RTA officials to launch a thorough investigation. The scam is particularly concerning as it affects road safety, with many vehicles, such as auto-rickshaws and buses, potentially operating without proper insurance coverage.

The issue has exposed a critical loophole in the system, endangering public safety and raising concerns about accountability within the RTA.
