2 Women Nearly Buried Alive Amid Land Dispute in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: In Hinauta, Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, two women, Mamta Pandey and Asha Pandey, were nearly buried alive by gravel from a dumper, following a land dispute. The women were protesting a road construction project on their leased land when the driver, allegedly following orders from local strongmen, dumped gravel on them, burying them up to their waist and neck. They were rescued by locals, with one woman requiring medical attention after losing consciousness.

The incident, captured on video, shows the women moments before being buried. They were taken to a nearby health center in Gangev. Senior police officer Vivek Lal confirmed that the incident stemmed from a family land dispute and involved a physical altercation before the gravel was dumped on the women. The victims accused several individuals, including Gaukaran Prasad Pandey and Mahendra Prasad Pandey, of orchestrating the attack.

The event has drawn significant criticism. State Congress chief Jeetu Patwari and former Union Minister Arun Yadav condemned the state government’s inability to protect women, highlighting the prevalence of crimes against women in Madhya Pradesh and the harassment faced by vulnerable groups under the BJP government. The police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation, analyzing witness testimonies.
