Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Gets Bail in Liquor Policy Case

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail in the liquor policy case. His lawyer argued that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had no concrete evidence against him, relying instead on statements from those who turned approver. The ED plans to appeal the trial court’s decision in the Delhi High Court tomorrow.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief is expected to be released from jail once the bail order is processed. Kejriwal’s lawyer contended that the case was built on testimonies from individuals who had confessed to their own guilt and were promised leniency, thus discrediting the prosecution’s claims. The lawyer emphasized that there was no concrete evidence linking ₹100 crore from the alleged ‘South Group’ lobby to Kejriwal.

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 on money laundering charges related to the Delhi liquor policy for 2021-22, which was later scrapped. The ED accused Kejriwal of using funds from liquor sellers to finance the AAP’s campaign in Goa. Both Kejriwal and the AAP have consistently maintained that the Centre is using its agencies to target opposition leaders with baseless cases.
