Hyderabad: The State cabinet has resolved to invite and honor Sonia Gandhi during the Telangana Formation Day celebrations on June 2. A resolution was passed on Monday, and the cabinet plans to seek approval from the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the event.
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, after a four-hour cabinet meeting, announced a Rs 500 bonus per quintal for fine grain paddy, in addition to the minimum support price (MSP), starting from the Kharif 2024 season. The specific fine grain varieties will be determined by scientists at Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU).
The cabinet also decided to make district collectors responsible for paddy procurement, ensuring the entire crop, including that affected by unseasonal rains, is bought. So far, 30 lakh tonnes of paddy have been procured through paddy procurement centers.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy instructed officials to take strict action against those selling spurious seeds and to raise awareness through advertisements, urging farmers to keep receipts until their crops are harvested.
Regarding the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme, the State government will act on the National Dam Safety Authority’s (NDSA) recommendations. The NDSA advised keeping the gates of three barrages open during monsoons to prevent water storage and formed a committee to oversee the issue. The government is exploring temporary solutions to lift water for the Kharif season if feasible. IT Minister D Sridhar Babu announced a Rs 600 crore initiative to upgrade infrastructure in government schools within 25-30 days under the “Amma Adarsha Schools” project. A Rs 120 crore advance has been allocated for the project, which aims to transform government schools into modern institutions. “Amma Adarsha School Committees,” formed by women’s self-help groups with the school headmaster as chairman, will oversee the project’s completion before the new academic year starts on June 12.
