Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, Islamic Scholar Passed Away at 96, He Was Tested Covid-19 Postive

New Delhi: Wahiduddin Khan was breathed his last on Wednesday evening.

He was hospitalized in critical condition a week earlier and was in ICU in Apollo Hospital Sarita Vihar, Delhi.

Wahiduddin Khan’s son Zafarul Islam Khan (former Chairman, Delhi Minorities Commission) shared the news on Twitter about Khan’s demise.

“The great Islamic scholar Maulana Wahiduddin Khan breathed his last, late this evening. Doctors failed to revive his sinking heart. Pray for his maghfirat and high station in Paradise. Amin,” Zafarul Islam Khan wrote.

Khan was born in Village Badharia, in district Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, India in 1925. He was an Islamic scholar and peace activist known for having written a commentary on the Quran and having translated it into contemporary English.

  • Khan has received also received India’s third-highest civilian honour, the Padma Bhushan, in January 2000.
  • Khan established Centre for Peace and Spirituality in 2001 to promote and reinforce the culture of peace.
  • Khan has received the Demiurgus Peace International Award, under the patronage of the former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev.
  • The National Citizens’ Award, presented to Khan by Mother Teresa and in 2009.
  • The Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award in 2009 were also presented to Khan
  • Khan was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour, in January 2021.
