COVID-19: Sputnik V, Russian Vaccines, First Lot Arrives at Hyderabad Airport

Hyderabad: A Russian plane carrying Sputnik V vaccines arrived at Hyderabad Airport on Saturday.

Recently, the Drug Controller General (DCGI) approved for Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories to import the Sputnik V, Russian vaccine to India for emergency use.

The start of the Sputnik V is expected to supplement India’s vaccination drive which commenced today.

Indian envoy to Russia Bala Venkatesh Varma had said that India expects between 150,000 to 200,000 ready-made vaccines to be available very quickly in the early part of May, and  India is expecting 5 million vials of Sputnik vaccines by the next month.

Russian, Sputnik V is the third vaccine in India that got approval after ‘Covishield’, and ‘Covaxin’.

Approved Vaccines in India

  1. Sputnik V, Russian vaccine by Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories
  2. Covishield, developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca manufactured by the Serum Institute of India
  3. Covaxin, an indigenous vaccine manufactured by Bharat Biotech.
