No Lockdown in 5 UP Cities, Supreme Court Puts on Hold Allahabad High Court Order

New Delhi: There will be no lockdown in five top Uttar Pradesh cities for now, as Supreme Court Puts on Hold High Court Order, and Supreme court asked Uttar Pradesh government to report within a week the steps UP government has taken and strategies and plans to take to control the Covid surge.

The Uttar Pradesh government in Supreme court argued that locking down five cities by Allahabad High court “may not be the right approach” and a “blanket lockdown imposed by the High Court in five cities would create immense administrative difficulties.” And also said that High Court’s order infringed upon the state government’s domain.

Earlier, The Allahabad High Court had ordered a lockdown till April 26 in 5 cities of Uttar Pradesh i.e., Lucknow, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Varanasi, Kanpur and Gorakhpur.

The UP government refused to enforce the Allahabad High Court had ordered last evening and approached the Supreme Court this morning.
