Death Toll Reached 47 in Maharashtra Landslides, Heaviest Rain in 40 Years

Mumbai: At least Forty-seven people till now have died due to heavy rains, flooding, and landslides in various areas of Maharashtra. The State is witnessing the heaviest rain in July in 40 years.

  • In the latest incident being reported, 11 people died after a landslide in Poladpur.
  • 36 people have died in landslides in Raigad district as incessant rain continued to batter the Konkan region of the state leaving thousands stranded in floods and landslides. The deaths happened in three landslides that took place yesterday, with 32 bodies being found in one spot and four others in another location.
  • Helicopters are being used to evacuate people from the flood-hit regions in Raigad, about 70 km from Mumbai.
  • Another landslide has been reported in Satara, where 12 people are said to be stuck.
  • Twenty people are feared trapped in two locations in the Patan tehsil of Western Maharashtra’s Satara district
  • Sattari in Goa, which is close to the Konkan region of Maharashtra, has been flooded too.

Authorities have appealed to those trapped to go to the rooftops or on heights from where the rescue teams in the helicopters can spot and evacuate them.
