EVM in BJP Candidate’s Car, officials Involved Suspended in Assam

Guwahati, Assam, 02 April: Election Commission in Assam officials were unaccountably transporting an electronic voting machine (EVM) after voting, in a BJP candidate’s car yesterday.

The car belonged to the wife of BJP contestant Krishnendu Paul; top opposition leaders today cited this to allege malpractices by the ruling BJP.

After the controversy, The Election Commission in Assam today ordered fresh voting in one polling station Ratabari seat in Assam.

As the car with EVM approached the strong room is situated, supporters of the opposition identified the vehicle wife of BJP contestant Krishnendu Paul, and mobbed it, along with the driver; the police staff ran for safety.

According to sources, It followed the break-down of the Election Commission-assigned vehicle, the polling staff, however, inexplicably took a lift in the private car. to the wife of BJP contestant Krishnendu Paul.

The Election commission officials involved have been suspended.

Assam went through the second phase of polling yesterday, recording over 77 per cent turnout and a few instances of violence.
