Beijing: China has announced that it will allow couples to have up to three children after survey data showed a steep decline in birth rates in the country.
For almost 40 years, China enforced a controversial “one-child policy”, one of the strictest family planning regulations worldwide.
Earlier Beijing scrapped its decades-old one-child policy in 2016, replacing it with a two-child limit that failed to result in a sustained surge in births given the high cost of raising children in Chinese cities.
According to Chinese media, the latest move to have Three Children was approved by President Xi Jinping in a politburo meeting.
