Telangana Approves Construction of Six Lane Bridge over Hussain Sagar

Hyderabad: Hussain Sagar will soon get six lane 120 meters bridge on Tank Bund to facilitate free flow of traffic.

Telangana Government has approved the construction of a six-lane bridge from arch on Tank Bund near Marriot Hotel towards Ranigunj at a cost of Rs. 25 crores.

In addition to bridge Tank Bund will be equipped with eight gates to ease discharge of water downstream during heavy inflows into the water body. at a cost of Rs. 41 crores. Currently, Hussain Sagar only has vents and water flows automatically after reaching the Full Tank Level.

Hussain Sagar (Tank Bund) is a heart-shaped lake in Hyderabad, built by Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah in 1563. It is spread across an area of 5.7 square kilometers and is fed by the River Musi. The lake was named after Hussain Shah Wali, who was the Master of Architecture in the Kingdom. Hussain Sagar was the main source of water supply to Hyderabad before Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar were built on river Musi.

The Ministry of Municipal Administration in its 2020-21 short-term plans approved Rs. 858 crores for the works of bridges, expansion of several Nallas and preservation of water bodies and lakes including Bandlaguda Cheru to Nagol Cheru Surplus Channel and Nalla, Saroornagar Lake to Chaitanyapur, alkapur Nalla, and Afzalsagar Nalla.
