Hyderabad ranks as the fourth most congested city in India, according to the Traffic Quality Index (TQI), with a score of 718 out of 1000. Bengaluru tops the list, followed by Mumbai and Delhi. The city’s traffic congestion is largely attributed to its rapid growth as an IT hub, leading to an increase in residents and vehicles.
Hyderabad faces frequent traffic standstills, especially during peak office hours and after minor rainfall. The city’s infrastructure is still developing, with only three metro lines currently operational, whereas other major cities have more extensive metro networks.
To combat congestion, the Telangana government is expanding the metro system with new routes connecting key areas like Raidurg, Kokapet Neopolis, MGBS, Chandrayangutta, Miyapur, Patancheru, LB Nagar, Hayat Nagar, and RGIA. These expansions aim to reduce congestion and improve public transport connectivity in the city.
