Heavy Rains Hits Hyderabad, Charminar Records 70mm Rain

Hyderabad: Heavy rains and strong thunderstorms hit Hyderabad on Sunday, causing traffic congestion and waterlogging. The southern and central regions experienced the most intense storms, affecting areas like Charminar, Malakpet, Mehdipatnam, Bahadurpura, and Nampally. Charminar recorded 70.3 mm of rain, Asifnagar 69.3 mm, and Nampally 68.5 mm, according to the Telangana State Development and Planning Society (TGDPS).

Despite the rainfall, the city remained hot and humid with temperatures ranging from 24.6°C to 33.2°C and 66% relative humidity. Hyderabad has seen below-normal rainfall recently but is still in the excess rainfall category for June.

The India Meteorological Department forecasts scattered light to moderate rain in Hyderabad until June 26, with temperatures between 32°C and 33°C. Heavy rains also impacted other Telangana districts, including Rangareddy, Karimnagar, and Mancherial, with Kasipet in Mancherial recording 60.8 mm of rain. Most Telangana districts, except Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Peddapalli, and Mancherial, fall under the normal to above excess rainfall categories. More substantial rainfall is expected across Telangana, including Hyderabad, after June 26.
