1,000 Covid Cases in 2 Days in Haridwar as Millions Gather at Kumbh Mela

Nearly a lakh people had gathered for the holy dip in total violation of Covid protocols issued by the Union Health Ministry. People were seen without mask, with no social distancing.

Haridwar, 14 April: Uttarakhand’s Haridwar reported 1,000 new coronavirus cases in last 2 days, 594 on Tuesday, and 408 cases on Monday, as thousands gathered to take dips (Shahi Asnan) in the Ganges for the 13th day of Kumbh Mela.

As Uttarakhand register 1,925 new cases with 13 deaths in the last 24 hours. Devotees continue to throng in Kumbh Mela on ghats of Haridwar even as the India under attacks of severe second wave of coronavirus infections with many states running out of vaccines and beds for patients.

Nearly a million people have gathered to the banks of the Ganges to celebrate in the months-long “Kumbh Mela”.

On Monday, the day of the auspicious Shahi Snan, nearly a lakh people had gathered for the holy dip in total violation of Covid protocols issued by the Union Health Ministry. People were seen without mask, with no social distancing.
