Narayen Rane, Union Minister Arrested by Maharashtra Police for “Slap Thackeray” Remarks

Mumbai: Narayan Rane, Indian Union Minister was arrested by Maharashtra police today over his remarks on slapping Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for what he called his “ignorance of the year India won Independence”.

Narayan Rane was arrested after the Bombay High Court rejects his petitio on urgent hearing and asking for three FIRs against him to be scrapped.

After Rane’s arrest clashes broke out between workers of Shiv Sena, BJP, and the police in Mumbai as Shiv Sena workers marched towards Rane’s residence, media reported.

Narayan Rane, who joined Modi’s cabinet in July as Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), is the union minister to be arrested in 20 years.

Shiv Sena allege Union Minister Narayan Rane, a former Shivsena leader, deliberately made the remarks to provoke tension in Maharashtra and filed cases against him over his remarks on Monday at a BJP’s “Jan Ashirwad Yatra” for new ministers in PM Modi’s government.
