Katora Houz in Golconda, New Tourist Place in Future, Restoration Works Accelerated

Hyderabad:  GHMC in coordination with Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has speed up the restoration works at the historic Katora Houz in Golconda. The hyacinth being cleared from the tank in last weeks.

Both GHMC and HDMA were cleaning the work at the 460-year-old historical Katora Houz which began on 7th March using heavy equipment including JCBs.

GHMC earlier allocated funds for the restoration works of Katora Houz with an aim to turn the historic tank into a tourist attraction.

the proposed activities after cleaning up of the lake include drilling of bore wells, illumination, construction of pathways, landscaping, beautification and boating activity. The idea is to make Katora Houz, a new tourist destination in the city.

No cleaning was done at Katroa Houz for several decades, so water hyacinth, trash and weed, apart from turning into a mosquito breeding hub, the foul smell emanating from it is sickening causing severe inconvenience to nearby inhabitants.

Since MAUD took the initiative the Katora Houz on the path of getting a new lease of life.

The Katora Houz, the nearly 460-year-old tank at Golconda, built by the Qutub Shahi rulers, which was a fresh water storage tank. The Katora Houz was a site protected by the Archeological Survey of India, but only on papers.
