Kashmiri Acquitted from Anti-Terror Law, Spent 11 Years in Jail

Gujarat: Bashir Ahmed Baba, a Kashmiri man found innocent after spending 11 years in jail by the Additional Sessions Judge of Anand District Court.

Bashir, then a 32-year-old computer professional,  was arrested on terror charges UAPA at Anand district, Gujarat in March 2010 during his course on caring for cancer patients.

He was accused of being in touch with a Hizbul Mujahideen commander in Pakistan and setting up a terror module and recruiting angry Muslims over the 2002 riots in Gujarat.

Bashir was released last week after he was found innocent by the Additional Sessions Judge of Anand District Court found him innocent and he was released last week after spending 11 years in jail.

Bashir and many others in India have spent years in jail on terror charges that could not be substantiated in court and later acquitted for all charges.
