‘Ever Given’ Re-floated, After One Week from Suez Canal

Cairo. 29 March: A giant ship ‘Ever Given’ which was stuck last week in the Suez Canal, has been freed by salvage teams, Inchcape Shipping Services said on Monday, 29 March.

In an effort to dislodge and refloat the ship, 14 tugboats pulled and pushed the ship after removing more than 20,000 tons of sand on Saturday.

However, the report said that while the ship is afloat once more, it is not immediately clear how long it will take the Suez Canal to be freed of the long traffic jam of ships waiting due to the blockage. At least 321 vessels are currently jammed around Egypt’s Suez Canal.

Twitter confirmed that, the stranded container ship blocking the Suez Canal was re-floated on Monday and is currently being secured, Inch Cape Shipping Services said in a post on Twitter.

The Suez Canal Authority had earlier said in a statement that tugging operations to free the ship had resumed.

The maritime services provider said that the MV Ever Given ship had been successfully refloated and was being secured at the moment. More information about next steps will follow once they are known.
