Tehran: Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said on Tuesday that countries in the Middle East would no longer serve as “shields” for US military bases, as tensions continue between Tehran and Washington.
In a message released during Eid Al-Adha, Khamenei said the US was losing its influence and no longer had secure bases in the region for aggression.
His remarks come as Iran and the United States continue talks aimed at ending the war that began on February 28. A fragile ceasefire has been in place since April 8, though Iran says a final agreement is still not close.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards also claimed they had downed a US drone and warned against any ceasefire violations by American forces.
Meanwhile, the US Central Command said its forces recently struck missile sites and boats in southern Iran despite the ceasefire. Iranian media later reported explosions in Bandar Abbas.
Mojtaba Khamenei took over leadership after his father Ali Khamenei was killed during the opening US-Israel strikes earlier this year.
