Chief ( Amir al-Mu’minin) – Mawlawi Hibatullah Akhundzada

Senior Judge, Former Taliban Chief Justice, Leader since 2016. The ultimate authority on political, religious, and military affairs.

Hibatullah Akhundzada became the supreme commander of the Taliban in May 2016. In the 1980s, he participated in the Islamist resistance against the Soviet military campaign in Afghanistan, but his reputation is more that of a religious leader than a military commander. Akhundzada worked as head of the Sharia Courts in the 1990s.

Political Deputy – Mullah Abdul Mullah Ghani Baradar, Co-Founder of Taliban, head of the political office in Doha.

Deputy – Mullah Muhammad Yaqoob, Son of Taliban founder, Mullah Omer, Military operational commander

Deputy – Sirajuddin Haqqani, Head of Haqqani Network

Senior Judge Mullah Abdul Hakeem, Oversees the Taliban judicial structure; leads the negotiation team in Doha

Leadership Council – Rahbari Shura The Taliban’s highest advisory and decision-making authority with 26 members.

Commissions – The Taliban’s ‘cabinet of ministers’, overseeing activities in different areas including Military, Intelligence,  Political,  Economic, and 13 others.

Political Office Doha – The Taliban’s international representation, dealing with the peace negotiations.
