Hyderabad, 1st March: An E-commerce scam busted and 10 of the gang members arrested by the Cyberabad Cybercrime police on Monday.
The Gang is allegedly cheating people in the name of known e-commerce and telemarketing companies by sending gift scratch cards and application letters.
The arrested members of the gang are…
- Tarun Kumar from Bihar,
- Prabhakar Kumar Sinha from Jharkhand,
- Kamlesh Dubey from Mancherial,
- Yashwanth Thakur from Madhya Pradesh,
- Sourabh Patel from Madhya Pradesh,
- M.Venkatesh from Ranchi,
- G. Rakesh from Ranchi,
- E. Prashanth from Ranchi,
- S. Rajender Reddy from Ranchi, and
- L.Rajalingu, from Ranchi
Five more member the gang Alok, Tiranju and Bajrangi from Bihar and Kotesh and Sunil from Jharkhand, were absconding.
In a press conference today, VC Sajjanar Cyberabad Commissioner said, Tarun Kumar collected the database of customers of different e-commerce websites and prepared fake envelopes of these companies and sent scratch cards customer by post. And customers believed the letters from these online e-commerce companies. Customers fell into the trap and called the fraudsters on the numbers given in the post received to confirm winning gifts including cars and costly gadgets among others,”
Once any of the customers believed them, they would start extracting money under the pretext of registration fee, document charges, GST, and Income Tax to claim gifts,” Sajjanar said.
Police had seized 42 mobile phones, laptops, rubber stamps and 30 debit cards from the gang.
