Bridge Collapse in China: 11 Dead, Over 30 Missing Due to Flash Floods

In Shaanxi province, China, at least 11 people died and more than 30 went missing when a highway bridge partially collapsed due to flash floods. The incident occurred in Zhashui County, Shangluo City, on Friday evening following a sudden downpour.

China’s national fire and rescue authority said Saturday it had dispatched a rescue team made up of nearly 900 people, 90 vehicles, 20 boats and 41 drones, according to Reuters.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged for extensive rescue and relief efforts to protect lives and property.

Authorities said sudden floods struck around 2:30 a.m. local time, while many were sleeping and caused damage to homes, roads and bridges.
