New Delhi, 11 March: Ravneet Singh Bittu, 45, Congress MP from Ludhiana was appointed the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament) on Thursday.
He will be replacing Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury who would be busy with the upcoming Assembly election in West Bengal for the next two months.
Since, Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Leader of Opposition also busy in Assam election, Ravneet Singh Bittu will oversee the party’s affairs in the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Parliament).
The three-time MP, Ravneet Singh Bittu, Grandson of late Punjab CM Beant Singh was first elected to Parliament in 2009 from Anandpur Sahib and then twice from Ludhiana in 2014 and 2019.
Ravneet Singh Bittu has been at the forefront of the farmers’ agitation, protesting in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and was attacked during a demonstration at the Singhu border on the outskirts of the capital.
