Only 34 of the bodies out of 61 recovered have been identified.
Chamoli, 19 FEB: Rescuers from Chamoli, Uttarakhand Glacier Disaster have so far recovered 61 bodies, and 143 more people remain missing in the aftermath of the worst natural disaster in Uttarakhand.
According to official, only 34 of the bodies out of 61 recovered have been identified. After recovering the bodies, their DNA samples are being collected….to ascertain their identities.
1.7-kilometer-long tunnel at the NTPC’s power project in Tapovan which is in the focus of the rescue operation, the rescuers have cleared the muck up to about 146 meters inside the tunnel but are facing difficulty due to the discharge of heavy sludge.
According to rescue official, about 70 of their personnel are searching for bodies in the river in Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, and Pauri Garhwal.
