Overseas Indian Needs Permission for Tabligh, Journalistic, Research, Internship Activities: Home Ministry

New Delhi, 05 March: OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) cards holders are now required special permission to participate any missionary, Tabligh or journalistic activities.

According to new rules issued by the Union Home Ministry on Friday for overseas Indians seeking visas.

  • Those with OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) cards who want to take up these activities will need special permission from the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
  • Overseas Indians will similarly require permission to take up any research work, internship with foreign missions or if they need to visit areas designated as restricted or protected.
  • The OCI cardholders have to inform the FRRO if there is a change in address.

Under the new rules,

  • OCI cardholders can now apply for multiple entry lifelong visa for visiting India for any purpose, including the activities mentioned above.
  • They also give these foreign nationals parity with Indian citizens and with Non-Resident Indians on some matters.
  • OCI cardholders will be treated the same as NRIs for all inter-country adoption of Indian children and appearing for the all India entrance tests such as NEET, Joint Entrance Examination (Mains), Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) or such other tests to make them eligible for admission only against any Non-Resident Indian seat or any supernumerary seat.
