Top Hyderabad Jeweler Dies of CoronaVirus, Creates Panic among 150 Guests

Hyderabad: A Hyderabad jeweler died of CoronaVirus on Saturday, triggering fear among the people who took part in his lavish birthday celebration. At least 150 people attended the gathering most of them are belong to members of the jeweler association.

The jeweler from Himayat Nagar, who is well-known for hosting regular parties, had thrown a birthday party for his friends and relatives in Hyderabad. Several prominent jewelers’, gold merchants and political leaders also attended the event.

“Three days after the party, the jeweler developed symptoms of CoronaVirus and was immediately admitted to a corporate hospital in the city. He succumbed to the virus three days later early last week,” the official quoted above said.

Another prominent jeweler of the city and a member of the Telangana Jeweler’s Association was admitted to a corporate hospital after developing Covid-19 symptoms. He died Friday. A prominent political leader who had attended the party also tested positive for CoronaVirus.

As soon as the news broke out, on Saturday, the panic attendees rushed to get themselves tested at private labs. 

Twelve people, including a Telangana politician, who was present at the birthday party have tested positive. An official from the state health department, who is familiar with this development, said the affected are undergoing treatment across several hospitals in the city.

Meanwhile, more than 6,000 CoronaVirus patients are presently being treated in home isolation in Telangana and the state government is ramping up testing and the facilities to deal with the pandemic, a senior health official said on Saturday.

“After Delhi, the highest number of positive cases in home isolation are in Telangana. While 12,000 cases have been kept in home isolation for the last one month, at present 6,552 cases are in home isolation,” state Director of Public Health G Srinivasa Rao told reporters here.

Those in-home isolation are guided the telemedical, video-counseling.
