Hyderabad: Looking to meet the pedestrians’ demand safely and conveniently crossing roads and intersections, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is now targeting to expedite the constructing 38 Foot over Bridges (FoB) in different parts of the city in the next four months.

These structures are being built with a cost of Rs 102 crore and 23 of them will be equipped with escalators for the convenience of users, especially senior citizens. “Escalators will be given based on the pedestrian traffic at the location. Purpose of escalator will not be served if the traffic is sparse,” said an official.
The decision follows Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister, KT Rama Rao’s directions to the municipal corporation to accord priority for providing amenities for pedestrians. Accordingly, the GHMC has finalized designs for the structures and is gearing up to complete the works in the next four months.
Of 38 FOBs 7 will be constructed in Charminar, 10 will be constructed in L.B.Nagar zone, 4 in Khairatabad zone 5 in Secunderabad zone, 2 in Kukatpally zone and 10 in Serilingampally zones

Construction of FOBs has been delayed enormously, and the responsibility has been shifted back and forth between GHMC and HMDA, before it was handed over to the projects wing of the GHMC, which finalized the tenders. After much delay, it has now been given to the maintenance wing.
