Hyderabad. 16 April: The Telangana government has converted Gandhi Hospital to only Covid-19 related patients and Covid care facility with immediate effect.
All the other departments for casualty, emergency and outpatient services will be stopped, including the postponing of schedule surgeries.
The move comes in the wake of surge of Covid infections during the second wave of the pandemic and pressure from the relatives of covid patients for beds and healthcare facilities.
Earlier today, in two private hospitals in the city have allegedly come under attack from the relatives of Covid-19 related patients.
Mahender Singh was admitted into Bristlecone Hospital, Barkatpura with severe shortness of breath and died while undergoing treatment. The hospital authorities alleged that the deceased’s kin vandalized the hospital and beat up the staff.
In another incident, Alpha hospital in Moghalpura area of old city filed a complaint with the local police alleging that the attendees of a patient with COVID-19 symptoms became aggressive and damaged the causality window and scanner, after they were asked to take the patient to a nearby hospital for covid test.
