New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has kept Hyderabad as standby venue for the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in the wake of rising Covid-19 cases in India.
The BCCI is monitoring the growing number of Covid-19 cases in India, especially in Mumbai.
Hyderabad has emerged as a standby venue option, if one or more of the six selected host cities not be able to hold their matches.
The month of March has brought a surge in Covid-19 in India, especially the condition of Mumbai, Maharashtra considered as a “second wave” that is “more severe than the previous one”, and there is possibility of lockdown in Mumbai, Maharashtra again
Other cities remain confident that it will be able to conduct the IPL as scheduled, and none of the franchises have been spoken to by the board about a possible change in venue.
The IPL 2021 will be held I six different cities, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata. All the matches will be played without public at the stadiums.
The play-offs and the final matches are scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad by end of May.
