12 Dead, Several Injured in Stampede at Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu: PM Announce Ex-Gratia for Victims

Jammu: Twelve pilgrims have died and several others injured in a stampede at Jammu and Kashmir’s Vaishno Devi temple during the huge crowd of devotees, who had come to pray t mark the beginning of the New Year.

The stampede has occurred when a massive rush of devotees storm the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine on Trikuta hills.

According to Additional Director General of Police, Mukesh Singh, 12 pilgrims have died and at least 14 are injured in the stampede. “All the injured have been taken to a hospital,” he added.

According to sources, the rescue operations started immediately and all the injured have been taken to hospitals, where the condition of some is stated to be “serious”.

Pm Modi offers an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each to the next of kin of those who lost their lives and Rs. 50,000 to the injured due to the stampede at Vaishno Devi Bhawan.
