SRH Win Over RR, to Meet KKR in Final

Shabaz Ahmed : Player of the Match

Chennai: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) advanced to their third IPL final after a comprehensive victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 24. SRH’s bowlers delivered an exceptional performance, restricting RR with a clinical display.

Despite a strong start from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 42 off 21 balls, RR faltered when spinners Shahbaz Ahmed and Abhishek Sharma took control. From a promising 51/1 in the first six overs, RR collapsed to 79/5 in 11.4 overs. Dhruv Jurel’s valiant 56-run effort from 35 balls couldn’t save RR as they failed to reach the final.

The pitch, favoring spinners in the second innings, saw SRH’s spinners excel. Shahbaz Ahmed claimed three key wickets, while Abhishek Sharma took two. T Natarajan also impressed with his economical 1/13 in three overs, aided by the absence of dew which helped bowlers maintain their grip.

Batting first, SRH posted 175/9, led by Heinrich Klaasen’s crucial 50 off 34 balls. Despite losing wickets regularly, Klaasen’s steady innings ensured a competitive total before being dismissed by Sandeep Sharma in the 19th over.

SRH will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final on May 26 at the same venue in Chennai.
